About time I posted more updates on this module.

Here we have a view of the front of the module, with the newly added side frames and quite a bit of papier mache hillside.

Here, the front section of the embankment has been removed...

...which allows access for the camera.

The exposed section of the module will also be sceniced, rather than having so much white on show...

Looking good Stu. Could I make a suggestion please? When the front section is removed to allow close up photography you could use an alternative section with the same footprint to fill the empty space with flat ballast or weeds so that the foreground does not appear bare if you need to pan back a little with the camera.

That's a good idea. I had just intended to scenic the exposed baseboard, sitting the pull-out section on top, but an alternative unit might be a better solution.
As yet the module floor has no height ( it needs to be 4" from table to top of rail) so it might be possible to store such a unit under the main base.

Looking good Stu, I'm always a fan of track level shots too.

After all, not many of us own helicopters and flying one probably makes it hard to aim the camera anyway. lol

Do you know, I'd never thought of that when it came to taking photos of my layouts etc - I just take my snaps from any old angle. There's another idea for the diorama!

Looking amazing! Fantastic work. I do love the brick work on the tunnel mouth especially.

The tunnel brickwork was actually quite simple.

I drew out the pattern on a piece of cornflake packet cardboard, after looking at the Bewdley tunnel mouth to get the correct brick layout. Each main block is 20mm x10mm, with the odd shaped ones next to the mouth whatever size they needed to be.

I then took a piece of mount board, cut the arch, gave it a wash of yellowy-greeny-browny to serve as the mortar, then drew a few horizontal guidelines.

I cut each row of blocks in turn from the card, and added them one at a time, like for like. A quick slap of a browny-reddy colour and the job was done.

I find that the actual overall look is what counts, what you do to get there can be quite basic. The bottom line is - 'have a go !'

As Stu says, a lot of scenic modelling can be very simple and it uses cheap (often free) materials. Have a go, you might be suprised just how easy it is. If you make a mess of the first one don't worry about it, just try again. Like many things in life, it comes with practice.

Trial and error may be wasteful with expensive stuff like brass kits but, with scrap card, old pan scrubs, sweepings off the floor and other freebies, scenic modelling need not cost a lot. I learnt the basics at your age but am still learning yet and always willing to experiment with something new... Or not so new because old junk is cheap. :D

Great work there Stu,

What's the reason for making such high sides to the layout? Is it to draw the eye in and create a depth of field in a small space?
Not very used to these small layout techniques!

Rule 1. Diorama cannot exceed the fixed dimensions; them being 2ft wide, 2ft deep and 2ft tall

The high sides, in my opinion, add to the eerieness of the ghost story's scene because the trees enclose the cutting to exclude the outside world. They really need some OO scale fog oozing out of them and DCC sound of a hound howling in the distance, and perhaps a pair of owls hooting to each other, to complete the effect.
