Because I'm in a mad panic to repair 'New Walmington Pier' in time for the Basingstoke show on 10 & 11 March (golfing next weekend and Stowmarket Railway Club swapmeet on 4 March), I need some plastruct parts desperately as well as other scratchbuilding materials and there is only one model shop in Suffolk I can rely on - Parrs, 252 London Road South, Lowestoft NR33 0BE (tel: 01502 565695).

To save my diesel costs of driving up, I took the train to Lowestoft for the first time ever! Greater Anglia express to Norwich and change there for a fast class 156 to Lowestoft:

156409 with Greater Anglia branding at what must be one of East Anglia's most depressing stations!!

Whilst walking down to Parrs I photographed Claremont Pier:

It looked closed and how long it'll survive is anyone's guess!

Then armed with all I wanted, back to Norwich on a slow class 156:

156412 still in Central Trains livery with Greater Anglia branding.

My day out was brightened up with my luckiest photo:

Approaching Reedham Swing Bridge and not one bit of reflection through the window!

If you have the misfortune to be in Lowestoft, then pay a visit to Parrs, it's like model shops used to be!!!

Is that swing bridge the one that was one Mr Portillo's Great Railway Journeys? Cracking shot of it.

Why is Anglia full of modelling inspiration? Cromer is an excellent place (a layout has already been done for that), and Lowestoft looks as good :) Felixstowe is another, but what can I say? Excellent photos Dave!
